Relative Density Apparatus is used to determine the relative density of free-draining soils. Minimum index density is determined by loose placement in the moulds, using special pouring funnels, scoop, or shovel, depending on the size of soil particles.

OVERVIEW

The relative density apparatus relates the dry density of cohesionless soil to the maximum and minimum densities. The degree of compaction of cohesionless soil can be stated in terms of relative density.
The equipment consists one each of Vibratory table, with cushioned steel vibrating decks about 75cm x 75cm. It has a frequency of approximately 3600 vibratory tables, minute under an 11.5kg load. Amplitude is variable in between 0.65mm in step of 0.05 to 0.25mm, 0.25 to 0.45 mm and 0.45 to 0.65mm.

SPECIFICATIONS

The equipment comprises a vibratory table 75mm x 75mm motorized 230 Volts, single phase.

A.C. cylindrical mould 3000 cm3 and 15000 cm3, guide sieve with clamp for moulds, surcharge base plate, surcharge weight for 3000 and 15000 cm3, handle for the base plate, dial gauge holder, dial gauge 0.01 mm x 25 mm travel with extension piece calibration bar 75 x 300 x 3mm.

Material for Construction Stainless steel.

  • VSLIC 22606    : Surcharge weight for VSLIC 22602. The total weight together with VSLIC 22605 & VSLIC 22605 is equivalent to 140g/cm² for the mould being used.
  • VSLIC 22607    : Cylindrical metal unit weight mould.
