OVERVIEW

Porosity and Density Determination of Rock Using Saturation and Caliper Techniques : IS:13030-1991 (R.A.2021) for determining the porosity and dry density of rock samples in the form of specimen of regular geometry.

The System consists of Vacuum Vessel such that the sample can be immersed in water under vacuum of less than 0.8 kPa for a period of at least one hour. Supplied with Vacuum system and Digital Vacuum Indicator.

Supplied without Oven, agitator to remove trapped air, desiccator, sample container, Electronic weighing Balance and Vernier caliper. These are available at extra cost.

The set up to determine porosity and density using saturation and  Buoyancy techniques is also available separately

  • This equipment should be suitable to determine the (i) water content, (ii) porosity and density (using saturation and caliper technique), and related properties of rock material. The unit should have the following components and meet the stated technical specification.
  • This equipment shall conform to IS: 13030.
  • A desiccator to hold specimens during cooling is to be supplied.
  • A measuring instrument such as digital vernier or micrometer caliper, capable of reading specimen dimensions to an accuracy of 0.01 mm is to be provided.
  • Supply of Vacuum saturation equipment is needed such that the specimen can be immersed in water under a vacuum of less than 0.8 kPa for a period of at least one hour.
  • A sample container of non-corrodible material, including an airtight lid includes the supply.
  • An electronic weighing balance of 5 kg capacity is to be supplied for determining the mass of a specimen to an accuracy of 0.01 gm of the specimen mass. The supply shall include the hot air oven with the following specifications
  • Capacity of 210 liters or higher
  • An oven capable of maintaining a temperature of 105 + 3°C for a period of at least 24 hours.
  • Temperature Range of ambient to 250 oC or above
  • Minimum 3 Nos of heating element should be provided to generate uniform temperature on all shelves as per the temperature range throughout all the days of a year without rest.
  • Digital PID Controller
  • Over Temperature Protection should be provided to ensure the safety of equipment and Environment.
  • Safety alarm should be provided.
  • Air Vent should be provided for escape of vapor
  • Air Circulation fan should provided to ensure good air circulation of heat inside chamber.
  • Removable Stainless steel wire mesh shelves (Minimum 3 nos) should be provided to withstand a sample weight of minimum 25 kg.
  • The door should be thermal insulated and fitted with heavy hinges and locking facilities.
  • Temperature sensor (PT100) with an accuracy of ± 1.0 oC
  • Stainless steel surface with well insulated Glass Wool or Mineral wool to the specified temperature range or more.
  • The outer Chamber should be a sturdy and well finished surface with powder coated mild steel or stainless steel body.
