OVERVIEW

Product Overview

Heat of Hydration apparatus is used for determining heat of hydration of cements by measuring difference between heat of solution of dry cement and heat of solution of a separate sample partially hydrated for 7 days & 28 days. Content-speed stirrer maintains uniform temperature throughout liquid and supplies sufficient agitation to keep solid reactant suspended in the acid mixture. This equipment consists of insulated wood case, vacuum jar with stopper; thermometer plus holder, glass funnel; stirring paddle and chuck.

When Portland cement is mixed with water, heat is liberated. This heat is called the heat of hydration, the result of the exothermic chemical reaction between cement & water. The heat generated by the cement’s hydration raises the temperature of concrete.

Technical Specification:

The equipment comprises the following: –

  • A wide mouthed double walled vacuum flask with a cork stopper 38 mm thick and an insulated container for flask.
  • A Beckman thermometer (Range 50C) held tightly by the cork stopper in such a way as to avoid accidental contact with stirrer blades and a reading lens. To facilitate easy removal, cork stopper is divided into two halves.
  • A constant speed stirrer (Double-bladed propeller type) extending to within 38 mm from the bottom of the flask.
  • A funnel (Gooch Type) with a stem of 6 mm inner dia and a body approx. 25 mm long and 25 mm dia is fitted to the cork stopper for introducing the sample.
  • All the above combine to form the calorimeter for determination of heat of hydration of cement.
  • Insulated Calorimeter: Vacuum flask wide mouthed 450 ml cap. (150x70mm diameter) with a cork stopper 40mm thick Material: PVC or Plastic resistant to Hydrofluoric Acid and Nitric Acid.
  • Insulated Container: Wooden Box fitted with insulating material like Cork, Cotton Wool or thermocol or similar material at least 25mm thick shall be divided in two parts in vertical plane.
  • Thermometer
    • Beckmann Thermometer Least count 0.01°C, Range: 6°C
    • Reference Thermometer (Least count 0.1°C, Range: upto 50°C)

Digital Temperature Indicator: Digital Temperature indicator Least count 0.001°C, Range: upto 50°C having non-breakable and acid (HF and HNO3) resistance free sensor

    • Magnifying Len to see thermometer reading

Note: – Beckmann thermometer and digital thermometer indicator must be calibrated by NABL calibration laboratory with certificate

  • Stirrer: Glass or High-Density Polyethylene material double bladed Propeller type approx. 40mm in dia. It shall have shaft dia of 6mm, resistant to HF and HNO3 and shaft length of 400mm
  • Stirrer Motor: Variable speed 40w synchronous motor geared to run at constant speed in the range of 350 to 700 rev/min
  • Paraffin Wax: Having congealing point about 60°C for acid proofing lining & Transparent
  • Funnel: Glass or Polyethylene adjustable and fixable in Calorimeter in SL-I Gooch type have a stem of 6mm internal dia and a body approximately 25mm long and 25mm in dia. The stem shall not protrude more than 3mm beneath the cork stopper.
  • The apparatus may also be marked with the ISI Certificate mark.

Suitable for operation on 220 V, 50 Hz, single phase supply.
